Introduction

Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.
Salvador Dali

The Art Department at St Birinus School is a calming inspirational environment that breeds hard work and fulfillment. Art is more than just a subject studied at school; it is an outlet for many to express themselves in a physical and emotional manner. While at SBS students have the opportunity to learn a variety of new skills from traditional painting to more contemporary Photoshop skills.

The Art Department has the benefit of being housed in a semi open plan purpose built facility. We have three main art studios which are perfect for drawing and painting due to an abundance of natural light. We are also lucky enough to have a 3D Design based studio, complete with potters wheels and its own Kiln.

The Art Department also boasts an Apple Mac suite with access to image editing software and high quality printing facilities. Our Photography Department includes a purpose built darkroom and a professional photography studio. These facilities place the department at the forefront of Secondary Art Education.

Related Extra-Curricular and Other School Activities

The Department is lucky enough to have in house artists who attend the school on a yearly basis and work with Gifted and Talented students, usually producing a whole school project like the recent Canteen Mural. Educational visits include KS4 to Cornwall and the Eden Project for Photography and to the Oxford Pitt Rivers for Fine ART. KS5 visits include annual trips to the museums and galleries of London.
