Didcot Festival Chorus

Please come and join us.
Didcot Festival Chorus usually presents one concert a year of major works from the choral repertory. We aim to make singing an enjoyable and social experience but also achieve a high standard of performance. The chorus combines with St. Birinus School Choir, an all boys’ non-auditioned choir. The Festival Chorus supports the school by enabling us to mount large scale concerts of exciting and sometimes unusual works in which boys would not normally have the chance to perform. Although Didcot does not currently have a festival, our annual autumn concert is still the largest musical event in the town’s calendar.

We are accompanied by the Oxford Symphony Orchestra. Works performed in the past have included: The Rio Grande (Constant Lambert), Requiem (Lloyd Webber), The Creation (Haydn), King David (Honegger), African Sanctus (Fanshawe), The Armed Man (Jenkins), Carmina Burana (Orff) and many others.

The Chorus meets on Wednesday evenings from 8.00 – 9.30pm for about ten rehearsals starting in September with the concert in November. We meet in the Performing Arts Centre at St Birinus School, Didcot. Our most recent concert was Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Handel’s Messiah.

The next concert will be on 19th November 2016 and will consist of large scale works to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the opening of St Birinus School.

If you have not already sung with the Festival Chorus do come and join, whatever your musical background – you will find us a friendly and enthusiastic choir in which to sing.
