Performing Arts

The Performing Arts Department seeks to provide a lively, practical and enjoyable curriculum with a wide range of activities and opportunities outside of lessons to extend and enrich students’ experiences. Music Technology and Drama are recent additions to our curriculum.

Music and the Performing Arts at St Birinus are high profile subjects within the school and the wider community. Many of our students perform to a very high standard in both school and County ensembles and some have acted as soloists in our own concerts with the Oxford Symphony Orchestra. We try to seek out and nurture those with special talent, especially if they have not yet been “discovered” and our activities are inclusive with no auditions required in order to take part.

Instrumental Teaching

We currently offer instrumental tuition, subject to teaching time availability, on the following instruments:- flute, clarinet, saxophones, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, drum kit, guitars, cello, double bass and piano. Other orchestral instrumental can be arranged if there is sufficient interest.

Lessons are provided by the Oxfordshire County Music Service, current conditions and fees can be found by phoning 01865 740000 or email
