Transport

By Car

As you can appreciate the school is very busy at the beginning and end of the school day so in the interests of safety can parents please refrain from dropping off or collecting their children from the school premises, including outside Didcot Leisure Centre.

The drop off/pick up point is on Newlands Avenue/Glebe Road – NOT Mereland Road or the lay-by between the school and Didcot Leisure Centre.
Your son can then use the footpath by the tennis courts and through the gates near the new housing at Glebe Road as his access point. This is a really important road safety issue – your cooperation would be appreciated.

By School Bus

Below are details of the bus services planned for our students.

Update from September 2023 - The BB4 service will follow its previous route from Wantage to Rowstock Corner and then operate via Harwell village (the current BB5 route). This is due to anticipated increased numbers traveling from Chilton and Harwell requiring additional capacity on this section of route.

Didcot Girls' School and St Birinus School are committed to ensuring our students receive a safe and reliable transport service to school.

Below are details of the bus services planned for our students. These are in addition to the normal public bus routes that any pupil can use. The timetable is changed from time to time by the bus companies, however, so parents and students should check details on the Thames Travel and OCC websites, depending on the provider listed.

The bus operating companies manage all of the administration and provide all the tickets and passes.  They also collect any fees.  The school are in regular contact with the bus companies to ensure a safe and reliable service.

There are currently numerous routes every school day to and from Didcot Girls’ School and St Birinus School so that students can travel to school and back home by bus. They are set out in the document below titled School Bus Information.

By Public Transport

There are a number of buses that provide transport from the villages and towns beyond our catchment area.

St Birinus is only a short walk from Didcot Parkway Train Station, which has regular connections to local villages between Oxford and Reading.

Cycling

There are plenty of secure storage spaces on-site, so we welcome students cycling to and from school.

Please see our Safety page for further advice on how to cycle safely.

Walking

St Birinus School is close enough for most residents of Didcot to walk to school.
