Please read to the end of the page for full information about our approach to home learning and links to key websites.

How teachers will set work:

  • All work will be set on Show My Homework
  • For Maths, students will also use Hegarty
  • For Science, students will also use Educake and Kerboodle (KS3 and KS4)

If you need help with log in details for these websites at any point please email the following teachers:

Show My Homework: Miss Hopkins on jhopkins@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk

Hegarty Maths: Mrs Gothard on zgothard@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk

Educake and Kerboodle: Mr Forbes on rforbes@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk

How to access Show My Homework:

The website address for Show My Homework is: www.teamsatchel.com

On the homepage you should select ‘log in’ at the top right corner, choose St Birinus School from the drop down menu and then enter your email address and password.  You will then be able to access all the learning tasks that have been set, resources that have been uploaded and weblinks that will support the learning of your child.

If you have forgotten your log in details and are waiting for them to be supplied then you can view homework tasks by selecting ‘Search for School’ which is located in the centre of the homepage.  You will then be able to select ‘St Birinus School’ from the drop-down menu and will be able to filter the work that has been set for your child by year group, subject, teacher or class.

When will work be set:

Work will be set from Monday until Friday every day that we are not able to be in school during term time.

Students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be set learning tasks from three subjects each day and these tasks will appear on Show My Homework before 9am.

There will also be optional challenge and enrichment projects available for students who are keen to pursue their learning further.

Students in Year 11 will also have the optional challenge and enrichment projects list.

Students should tick off the tasks on Show My Homework once they are completed and should make sure that quizzes are attempted 3 times and that any work that needs to be submitted is uploaded.

How should students organise their time:

Students should be supported to maintain a regular routine and go to bed and get up at around the same time each day.

We suggest a clear routine that is followed every day from the beginning of school closure as it will help students establish good learning habits. For Years 7-10, please see the suggested timetable, below. Please also see the schedule of work for your son's year group, below.

Reading:

Students should read for 15 minutes every day and this can be either from a fiction book that they are enjoying or by completing one of the reading challenge tasks from the list that will be posted on Show My Homework every Monday.

Health & Well Being:

Students should choose an activity to complete from the list of indoor fitness tasks that will be posted on Show My Homework by the PE Faculty every Monday.

How you can support your child to organise their time:

  • Make sure your child checks Show My Homework every morning for their learning tasks for the day
  • Either use our suggested timetable or create a timetable that outlines what will be done and when it will be done every day, make sure the timetable includes regular breaks

How you can support your child to stay motivated and focused on learning:

  • Try to find a quiet place for them to complete their work where they are not distracted by music or television
  • Encourage them to leave their phones in a different room and stay off social media while they are working
  • Encourage exercise, healthy food and getting fresh air each day
  • Ask your child to show you the work they have done and explain it to you
  • Give your child lots of praise and encouragement
  • Encourage your child to use the messaging app on Show My Homework to ask teachers about anything they haven’t understood or have any questions about the work that has been set
