About the role 

We are looking for a caretaker to join our existing experienced Site Team at St Birinus School.  The successful candidate’s responsibilities will mainly involve general site maintenance, security, and health and safety tasks, to ensure the school site is well maintained and safe for all members of our school community. 

The successful candidate will already have some skills in site maintenance and a willingness to learn.  This role will involve interactions with all members of the school community, so being a good communicator is key.  Experience of working already in an education setting is desirable but not essential. 

The salary that comes with the role is £19,500 to £20,444 per annum (dependent on experience) plus a shift allowance of £1,833 (substantive salary based on Grade 5 SCP 5-7). The position is permanent, 37 hours per week, excluding a 30 min unpaid lunch break each day.  It is all year round, excluding bank holidays and personal holiday allocation. 

Working hours will be on a shift rota basis.  With three different start and end times: 

  • 7am – 3pm 
  • 9am – 5pm 
  • 12noon – 8pm  

Please note that start and end times vary within the school holidays, but do not start earlier than 8am and finish later than 5pm
