Covid Contingency for Open Evening

St Birinus School Open Evening - Wednesday 22nd September 2021

Covid contingency

To ensure that all staff, students and visitors to the school site for the open event feel confident and, as far as reasonably possible, Covid safe, please be aware of the following points:

  • Do complete a Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test on the eve of the event
  • Do not attend the open event if you are displaying any of the 3 symptoms of Covid 19
    1. a high temperature – you are hot to touch on your chest or back
    2. a new continuous cough – you have been coughing a lot for more than an hour, you have had 3 coughing episodes in the last 24  hours or your usual cough is worse than usual
    3. a loss or change to your sense of smell – you have noticed that you can not smell or taste anything or things smell or taste different to normal
  • Choose to wear a face covering – disposable masks will be available to you and your family at both reception foyers in the Science building and by Reception and are recommended if you are not yet vaccinated
  • Please be conscious and courteous of social distance and demonstrating patience in the event of queues at reception points or bottle necks around school tours
  • Hand sanitiser will be available in every classroom and throughout the school – please use this frequently and understand that whilst our welcome is warm and sincere, school staff will refrain from shaking hands
  • All corridors, classrooms and spaces will have windows and doors open to ensure adequate ventilation
  • The Headteacher talks will take place at 6pm and 7pm. School staff, should it be the case, will ensure that the hall is not overcrowded and recommend that families attend the second session if appropriate. The talks are being filmed and will be uploaded to the school website the following day
  • School staff have considered a balance of interactive activities to engage youngsters visiting the school, as well as creating the opportunity to connect with you and share the essence of the curriculum in each subject. Children taking part in interactive activities is entirely at your discretion and staff may choose to lead conversations from behind a desk and / or wearing a face covering
  • Student Guides are fully aware of the One Way System in school and will lead tours according to these established routes
  • Hard copies of the school’s Prospectus will be available on arrival but all information, programmes, maps and the “Student Passport” will be accessible and downloadable through QR codes should you prefer to read these on your phone or tablet

Should you have any questions or queries at any point, please do not hesitate to ask a member of school staff or indeed one of our many student helpers who will only be too happy to help.
