SBS hold Innaugural Student Leadership Conference

Posted on: 20/11/2019

On Tuesday 19 November St Birinus School held its inaugural Student Leadership Conference to mark International Men's Day.

The event was a brilliant success and 75 boys across Year 9, 10 and 11 heard from five inspirational and incredibly interesting guest speakers. Our conference was themed Journeys and the aim of the day was to celebrate Modern Masculinity and all the wonderful and empowering things it stands for. Over the course of the morning we heard from:

Leadership 1

Group Commander Hamish Cormack from the RAF

Dr Joanna Rhodes, world leading scientist from Imperial College, London

Mr Jon Driscoll, journalist and independent sports commentator who often does commentaries for football games on SKY and BBC

Mr Darren Hopgood, Chartered Accountant and Financial Director at Sony Entertainment

Mrs Rachael Warwick, Executive Head Teacher at the Ridgeway Education Trust and President of ASCL (Association of Schools and Colleges)

The event was organised by Dr Khan and ably supported by Miss Ward, the House Captain Team, Charity Leader Callum Crossley, and Associate Head Boy James Cooper.

Mr Manning gave the welcoming address and placed vision, communication and integrity at the centre of his approach to Leadership.

We hope the conference will become a long standing tradition at SBS. Do enjoy the photographs!

Dr G Khan
