Students Celebrate Outstanding A Level Results
Posted on: 13/08/2026Students and staff at Didcot Sixth Form, the successful partnership between Didcot Girls’ School and St Birinus School, are celebrating another outstanding set of A Level results.
Overall results for the sixth form are in line with last year, which was the best in the sixth form’s history. Most notably, 37% of all A Levels entries were awarded A or A grades*, up from 35% last year and 31% the year before. The proportion of A*–B grades and the overall pass rate also matched last year’s record figures, at 65% and 99%.
We are immensely proud of our students for the commitment, ambition and determination they have shown throughout their A Level studies. Their achievements reflect not only their academic ability and hard work, but also the encouragement of their families and the expertise, dedication and care of staff across both schools.
Among the 202 students completing their A Level studies this year:
- 12% of all entries were awarded an A*
- 37% of all entries were awarded A*–A
- 65% of all entries were awarded A*–B
- 85% of all entries were awarded A*–C
- 99% of all entries achieved a pass grade of A*–E
We are also delighted to celebrate the wide range of exciting destinations secured by our students:
- 85% of our 170 university applicants have secured a place at their Firm Choice of university
- Two students are taking up highly sought-after degree apprenticeships
- Three students are going on to study at Oxford or Cambridge
- Five students have secured places to study Medicine or Dentistry
James Cross, Director of Didcot Sixth Form, said:
“We are incredibly proud of everything our Year 13 students have achieved. These results reflect their sustained effort, intellectual ambition and determination, as well as the way they have supported and encouraged one another throughout their time with us.
“To have matched last year’s record overall performance at all grade boundaries while achieving our highest-ever proportion of A* and A grades is a tremendous accomplishment. Beyond their academic success, this cohort has made an exceptional contribution to the life of our sixth form and the wider school community. They leave us as confident, thoughtful and compassionate young adults, and we look forward to seeing all that they go on to achieve.”
Albie (A*BB) is embarking on a Degree Apprenticeship with Grant Thornton. Albie has a ‘full steam ahead’ mindset and excited about the opportunity: “This opportunity came along quite late in the recruitment cycle, but I’m absolutely over the moon to have secured it and can’t wait to get started.”

Archit (A*A*A*B) is off to the University of Oxford to study Mechanical Engineering: “I was initially hesitant about applying to Oxford, but I thought – it’s just one out of 5 university options, I might as well apply!”

Friends Josh (left, AAAB) and Victor (right, A*A*A*A*) joined us from Aureus School at the start of Year 12 and have since made an exceptional contribution to the sixth form community while achieving a stellar set of results. Both are progressing to study Mathematics, with Josh reading Mathematics and Statistics and Victor heading to the University of Warwick to read Mathematics.
